Hello family and friends,
My ritual of riding the Pan-Mass Challenge is now rolling into its 22nd year, and over the winter, I have decided that it will also be my last. Saying that, there may be something that comes upon me, that pulls me back, but for now, that is the plan.
I have never been very good with words, let alone putting them down on paper. I sincerely cannot express my gratitude to you all for the tremendous outpouring of love and support you have shown me, my family and the Pan-mass Challenge over the last 22 years. Without a doubt, I could not have done it without you. Thank you for allowing me to take part in, what I would always call, my favorite weekend of the year. I tip my cycling helmet to you all.
Those of you that are fans of the Super Bowl Squares have no fear; they will not be going away. There are other events I enjoy taking part in like the Boston Brain Tumor Ride and Livestrong event down in Austin, TX. Those don't have the same steep fundraising commitments as the PMC, but don't be surprised if/when a request for support comes in 2026 for those.
Now is the time when I ask for your support one last time for the PMC and help me go out with a bang! I'll be riding the full route Sturbridge to P-Town and am committed to raising $6,000.
The PMC is Dana-Farber's single largest supporter and is now 62% of the Jimmy Fund's annual revenue. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $1.047 billion for Dana-Farber. Our 2024 gift was $75 million.
The Dana Farber Cancer Institute is singular in that there is equal staffing, funding and research provided to both the adult and pediatric wings of the hospital. This often results in discoveries made by either division which will then benefit the other.
The PMC's impact can be felt across and beyond the Institute's labs and clinics, allowing it to invest in world-class research, care, and the people needed to maximize progress against cancer and save more lives.
In the past 5 years alone, PMC support has helped Dana-Farber do the following:
- Fuel the development of more than half of all FDA-approved cancer drugs
- Grow its clinical trials program into one of the nation's largest, with more than 1,100 trials offered
- Build 3 new world-class patient care facilities, expanding its reach and bringing care closer to home for patients
- Increase the number of endowed positions by 130%, significantly improving faculty recruitment and retention
- Provide patient navigation for over 400 patients, doubling the size of Dana-Farber's Cancer Care Equity Program
